The tortoise pattern of this enameled 1930s compact immediately reminded us of the story of the tortoise and the hare and, thus, hinted at the benefits of a slow and steady pace. (Perhaps wearing this on those full, tending-toward-frenzied days might bring some perspective?) In any case, we adored this rare, inventive example of a more glamorous time, its patterned lid opening to reveal a small compartment for rouge or powder, and then opening again to show a spot for (gasp!) cigarettes inside. (So fun for cocktail parties and clever conversation - the compact tricks not the cigarettes!) Suspended from large, glossy black onyx beads, this is an instead classic that will send you steady onward in style. Measures 20.5" in length with a silvered copper toggle clasp at back.
