Growth & Grit Necklace
Elva Fields
Growth and grit - two gifts I'm often reluctant to receive in life because they so rarely come without pain, struggle, and challenge. Yet, two gifts without which I likely could not navigate most of what life brings my way. A gilt brass leaf represents growth, while the pearl shows the beauty that comes as a result of grit, its miraculous transformation through agitation in an oyster shell. Both charms suspend side by side as a reminder of what is required in difficult times, yet also of what wonderful things are possible and present as we make our way through them. On a gilt brass ball-bead chain, each necklace measures approximately 17-18" length.
In an effort to help our neighbors in Western North Carolina in what is sure to be a long road to repair and rebuilding after the effects of Hurricane Helene, we're offering 100% of each sale of this gem to two organizations working to bring aid and relief to Asheville and its surrounding region:
World Central Kitchen, who coordinates with local businesses and organizations to give water to and cook meals for residents (as well as flying in supplies by helicopter, which is currently one of the few ways to access the area, as most roads to and from Western North Carolina are closed.)
BeLoved Asheville, an organization already deeply connected to the community through their food sharing, street outreach, housing opportunities, and health care offerings who will continue their meaningful work for those in need, many of whom were awaiting assistance before this disaster occurred.
A few things to note:
- As I am working quickly to gather supplies for this necklace, modeled images to left show approximate style to give an idea of length and scale, rather than featuring this specific design.
- I reserve the right to update and modify donation recipients as needs in WNC shift, but I will update the information here as soon as that change becomes necessary and before contributions to those agencies are made.
